Today Salem Hills High Welding classes had a guest presenter, Kim Miller from Western Tech. He taught about how they prepare students to become what companies want, need and demand including Diesel, HVAC, Welding, & Automotive
The Utah Restaurant Association held its annual ProStart Student training at the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy. Students went to learn about the Culinary and Management competitions held in March by learning about plating and getting creative by using madeleine cookies and other sweets to plate an appetizer, entree, and dessert. Students also learned how to do fruit carving and how to handle smaller sharp knives.
Evan Childs, a senior at Salem Hills High School, had an assignment in his Digital Media class where he had to create the cover of a magazine. Mr. Steve Gray submitted some of his students' work to The Rodeo News Magazine which Mr. Gray has designed for the last couple of years. This magazine distributes to more than 50,000 people nationwide. Evan's design was chosen and is on the November cover. Congratulations to all the students who submitted a design, and especially Evan for designing a cover for a widely distributed magazine.
AED Foundation (Associated Equipment Distributors) is hosting the Sale Lake City Heavy Equipment Technology Career Day & Barbecue on November 8th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. It is a great opportunity for students to make connections and network with industry members.
Viviana Menchaca, a senior at Maple Mountain High School, is getting ahead of the competition by participating in an internship at Nebo Animal Clinic. Viviana completed year-long classes in Animal Science I and Veterinary Assistant during her junior year. She is enrolled in Animal Science II this year while she receives hands-on experience and high school credit at her internship!
The sUAS (drone) class flew small drones after learning about the Part 107 regulations and how they can earn their commercial drone license. They worked in crews and performed preflight checklists before flying. They each had the opportunity to fly and be the visual observer. In the future they will fly in a series of challenges to increase their flight skills.
Bristol VanAusdal from Springville High is participating in an internship at Kneaders Bakery with the pastry chef. He took Food & Nutrition I and II and Culinary I classes in order to be eligible for the internship. During the last two months Bristol has learned new techniques, how to work with chocolate, and has improved his decorating and organizational skills!
Visit from USU Aviation
On 30 September members from the Utah State Aviation Department came to visit the Aviation classes. Parker Rollins, Heather Barstow, and Shalyn Drake told the students about their experiences in the Professional Pilot and Drone programs at Utah State at the Logan and Price campuses. The students were able to ask questions about the programs, and the sUAS class was able to fly drones in the parking lot.
Mrs. Ford’s Business Office Specialist students have the unique opportunity to become Microsoft Office Specialists by taking the industry-recognized MOS exams. Students who earn these certifications will possess marketable skills that will get them hired faster, and give them high-growth, advancement, and salary opportunities right out of high school!
