8th Annual Nebo Welding Invitational

This year marks the 8th annual Nebo Welding Invitational among Nebo Welding classes. All 5 high schools were well represented with their elite welders from their programs. A total of 6 contestants from each school, 3 for the individual welding competition and 3 formed a fabrication team. With the annual support of local welding companies and vendors along with Miller Electric and Lincoln Electric Companies the students were able to battle for some very prestigious prizes! Not only do the winners take home prizes but there are traveling trophies for both the fab and welding competitions that the overall winners take to their schools for bragging rights.

Contestants were judged on things such as type of welds, visual presentation, completion time and technical components of the welds. Local certified welding inspectors judged the competition. MMHS Nathan Wright won the individual welding competition, 2nd place SHS Mathew Rawle, 3rd PHS Cordell Clinger and 4th Kyle Combs were the individual welding competition winners. The fabrication competition was won by MMHS-their fab team was composed of Ladd Davis, Wyatt Justensen and Sam Christmas. MMHS will take home both traveling trophies this year due to their remarkable performance at the competition. We congratulate all the participants and their instructors for putting so much time and effort into preparing for this competition, and for preparing the next generation of welders.

“The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the need for welders is expected to grow by 26 percent by 2020. This makes welding one of the fastest growing professions in America.” (AWS May, 2018)
