February is National CTE Month BUT what is CTE?
CTE stands for Career & Technical Education. Previously it was called vocational education. CTE focuses on teaching tech-based and career-oriented skills and prepares students with real-world skills that they need to enter the workforce in 13 different career clusters.
SFHS FFA Competes at Area 5 Regionals
NEBO Welding Invitational 2020
January 13, 2020, the Annual Welding Competition was held at MMHS. Salem Hills, Spanish Fork, Maple Mountain, and Springville High School welding programs were in attendance along with neighboring Provo High School. This competition has evolved from a welding competition to also include a fabrication competition, so double the number of students has the opportunity to get involved. Each school was able to bring 6 of their elite students to compete against each other.
MMHS DECA
Friday, January 17 MMHS DECA competed at our region competition. Our students have worked hard with many early morning practices and the results showed. Of the 8 students that attended all place in the top three. We are working on the same results for our state competition in one month. Spanish Fork High School FFA Chapter Honors Spanish Fork Police Department by declaring December 16, 2019 "Blue to Blue" day. SFHS FFA presented SF Police department in a small ceremony with 45 turkeys, 45 poinsettias and Thank you cards in gratitude for their service, sacrifice, and dedication to Spanish Fork Community. Gifts were raised and grown by the FFA students in the agriculture program at Spanish Fork High School. Spanish Fork Police Department we thank you for your service!
Maple Mountain High School ProStart Culinary Students Visit La Jolla Groves
Maple Mountain ProStart culinary arts students had the opportunity to go to La Jolla Groves in Provo where they toured the kitchen, learned about careers in the restaurant industry and enjoyed a delicious lunch and yummy desserts.
MMHS FBLA Competes at Region
Maple Mountain High FBLA Club was very busy, and successful last week. They attended Region Competition at USU Eastern and took 5 competitors to the event. Each of these five competitors placed and brought home a total of 13 awards including three 1st place finishes and one on-the-spot scholarship offer! Super proud of these Golden Eagles!
Salem Hills High School Receives Concurrent Enrollment Award
Salem Hills High School has built up a great schedule of Concurrent Enrollment course offerings for our students. Starting in 2013 we have been receiving awards from Utah Valley University for being one of the top schools in the state running Concurrent Enrollment through UVU. This year the director, Spencer Childs said: "I am pleased that Salem Hills High School had the largest course enrollment in the UVU region." UVU is great with awarding us a plaque to display in our counseling office.
High School Students Assist in the Construction of an A-Frame Cabin at Shadow Mountain
High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) students from each high school within Nebo School District joined together to construct a new structure to accommodate more Shadow Mountain attendees.
