Good job to Salem Hills, Springville, and Maple Mountain High School ProStart Culinary competition teams! They represented our district well when they attended the state competition held at the Salt Palace. Student chefs have one hour to cook a 3-course meal and present it to the judges, who are professional chefs. ProStart is a national program that is run by the Utah Restaurant Association with support from the Utah Career and Technical Education board. This would not be possible without Melva Sine and the professional Chefs she has run and judged the event.
When most school programs are winding down for the year, many Career and Technical (CTE) courses are exploding with student-designed and fabricated projects for competition in the annual Utah Valley CTE Expo hosted by Nebo CTE held Wednesday, May 19, 2022, at the Spanish Fork Fairgrounds. It all gets underway tonight as participants from all over Utah start checking in for the big day on Thursday.
This year the theme for CTE teachers district-wide has been I.HAD.FUN. Fun in teaching, FUN in the schools, FUN in being with students and co-workers, and FUN in Nebo. CTE programs and courses are a way to help students find out what they are interested in. By taking CTE courses, students get a better idea of what field of study or work they would like to proceed in whether it be college or trade. CTE offers internships that a student can participate in after they have taken courses in that field. Opportunities in CTE are FUN!
Students Receive Scholarship or Tuition Award at the 36th Annual Career and Technical Education (CTE) Scholarships and Tuition Awards Banquet held Thursday at Salt Lake Community College. This banquet is held to honor CTE students throughout the state who have been selected to receive a scholarship or tuition award from a Utah postsecondary institution. This year’s selection process began in February when 213 students applied for a scholarship or tuition award.

This past week, members of the Spanish Fork/Salem Chamber gathered for a monthly Lunch & Learn to hear about CTE (Career & Technical Education) Internships from Nebo School District's Christine Thomas. She gave a summary of the program, which is available to Nebo high school juniors and seniors who are interested in exploring a specific career and receiving high school credit.
Chris said, “There are many local companies who offer internship experiences for our students and we appreciate all the time they contribute to the students' success.”
