Miriam Garcia, a Business and Computer Science teacher at Springville High School, was recently awarded a $2,000 scholarship by the Utah affiliate of ALAS (the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents).

Miriam Garcia is a first-generation high school and college graduate, after having come to the United States when she was five years old. She pursued an accounting degree after graduating from high school, but halfway through the program, Miriam decided to change majors and officially pursue a career in education. She graduated from Utah Valley University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business/Marketing Education in 2015.

This scholarship will assist Miriam as she enrolls in a Master's of Education Program in Educational Leadership at Utah Valley University this summer. She hopes to one day become a school administrator and to encourage other students from minorities to pursue higher education.

Congratulations to Miriam and best wishes as you pursue your dream.
