Nebo Faculty & Student present at National Conference

Nebo was in front of the nation. The National Concurrent Enrollment Conference was held in Salt Lake City, and they asked Utah Valley University to talk about how they have increased their numbers. UVU asked members of the Nebo School District to come and share how the two have worked together and grew College and Career opportunities for students faster than any other school district in the state. Cameron Gabler (2019 graduate) talked about winning the CE art show and using that to inspire himself and others. Nathaniel Morrell, History teacher at Salem Hills High School, shared how the UVU sponsorships offered his history classes a chance to visit with the Governor of Utah at the State Capital Building. Students' paradigm switched from the abstract government to real issues as they asked the governor questions about issues that were personal to them. Shaun Black and Brian Blake, Career & College Readiness specialists for Nebo, answered questions about the partnership that Nebo School District has with UVU. The audience was fascinated that a university would be willing to send employees to each school so the high school students and teachers could get help and support in their home school. The power of this presentation left the audience asking the question, "How can we build a relationship with our schools, so students and faculty can help students bridge the high school and university experiences?" Trust was the message the national members took with them as they left the workshop. Trust is what makes students and faculty feel like they want to belong.
